要比較兩個人、兩樣東西，或從一群裡選出「最～」的，英文的形容詞要改變形態：比較級用在「兩者之間」，最高級用在「三者以上」。難的地方只有兩個：加 -er／-est 還是用 more／most，以及拼寫的細節哦。
先決定用哪一種
看形容詞有幾個音節，大致是這樣分：

兩個音節的形容詞有些例外，像 quiet、simple、clever，加 -er 或用 more 兩種說法都有人用，遇到不確定的字，查字典最保險哦。
加 er／est 時的拼寫
- 字尾已經是 e，只加 r／st：nice → nicer → the nicest
- 短母音 + 一個子音，重複最後的子音：big → bigger → the biggest、hot → hotter → the hottest
- 子音 + y，y 換成 i：easy → easier → the easiest
不規則的幾個，直接背

far 的 farther 和 further 常常可以換著用，further 也可以表示「進一步的」（further information），這個先知道就好哦。
than、as…as、the：三個小工具
比較級後面用 than 帶出比較的對象：
My brother is taller than me. — 我哥哥比我高。
This bag is more expensive than that one. — 這個包包比那個貴。
than 後面接人稱代名詞時，口語常用 me、him，正式一點的寫法是 than I am、than he is，兩種都常見。
一樣的程度用 as…as，否定用 not as…as：
She is as tall as her mother. — 她跟她媽媽一樣高。
This test wasn't as difficult as the last one. — 這次的考試沒有上次難。
最高級前面通常要加 the（這是冠詞其中一種固定用法），後面用 in（範圍、地方）或 of（一群人或東西）：
He is the tallest student in the class. — 他是班上最高的學生。
This is the best of the three. — 這是三個裡面最好的。
想加強語氣時
比較級前面可以加 much、a lot、far、a bit、a little 來調整差距的大小：
This phone is much cheaper than that one. — 這支手機比那支便宜很多。
I'm a bit taller than you. — 我比你高一點點。
副詞也可以比較
副詞的比較方式類似：短的加 -er（fast → faster），以 -ly 結尾的多半用 more（more carefully）：
He runs faster than I do. — 他跑得比我快。
Please speak more slowly. — 請說慢一點。
怎麼練習
看到形容詞先問自己兩件事：幾個音節？有沒有要變的拼寫？再想想是比兩個人、還是「最～」？我自己第一次寫 bigger 的時候，總是忘記要多一個 g，哈哈，寫幾次就記得了。
